How can we develop resilience?

We can all have difficult feelings such as anger, frustration or disappointment. How we take care of ourselves when we have these feelings is important so that we can develop strength and courage to overcome them. It is important that we don’t hide these feelings but notice them and recognise that we are finding things hard and that this is ok. It is when we know this we can then begin to use strategies to help us survive through these feelings and bounce back to have another go at something hard. Resilience helps us to develop an inner strength, be brave and have courage. We develop an ability to ‘bounce back’ from adversity and adapt positively in the face of challenging personal circumstances and difficult situations.

  • All of our feelings are normal and will change
  • It can feel scary and difficult when we can’t control our feelings
